Role Overview

Families use BackPR to make life-changing enrollment decisions. The Principal AI Personalization Architect ensures the recommendations that guide them are transparent, bias-aware, and aligned with district guardrails.

You will own the strategy and technical architecture for AI-driven experiences, collaborating with Data Science, Product, and Trust teams to launch models that are measurable, auditable, and fair.

What you will lead

• Define the personalization architecture across ranking, recommendation, and conversational guidance services.
• Champion responsible AI practices, including model cards, bias testing, and human-in-the-loop escalation paths.
• Partner with Platform Engineering to build scalable feature stores, experimentation frameworks, and monitoring pipelines.
• Mentor senior machine learning engineers and data scientists on production-grade MLOps patterns.

Experience that sets you up for success

• Proven leadership building personalization systems for high-volume SaaS products under regulatory oversight.
• Deep knowledge of recommender system algorithms, privacy-preserving machine learning, and applied NLP.
• Demonstrated ability to translate policy requirements into technical guardrails and governance workflows.
• Strong communication skills bridging executive stakeholders, educators, and engineering teams.

Location & schedule

• Fully remote across the Americas and EMEA with daily overlap of at least four hours to Eastern Time.
• Virtual architecture forums, office hours, and pair programming blocks scheduled for global participation.
• Flexibility to adjust working hours around live launches, supported by follow-the-sun on-call rotations.

Compensation & benefits

• Base salary range: $240,000 - $290,000 USD with long-term incentives tied to responsible AI milestones.
