Role Overview

BackPR’s growth platform supports mission-critical enrollment and communications for school districts. The Senior Staff Cloud Security Engineer ensures every service operates within a hardened, observable, and continuously verified perimeter.

You will be the technical authority for zero-trust architecture, secret management, and runtime protection across our multi-cloud footprint.

What you will lead

• Design and implement identity-aware network segmentation, service mesh policy, and workload isolation.
• Drive threat modeling, secure design reviews, and automated guardrails for new platform capabilities.
• Build detection-as-code pipelines, runtime telemetry, and incident workflows tuned for remote teams.
• Partner with Engineering Productivity to embed security controls inside CI/CD and infrastructure automation.

Experience that sets you up for success

• Deep experience with Kubernetes, service meshes, and cloud-native security controls across AWS and GCP.
• Demonstrated leadership responding to incidents, coordinating postmortems, and delivering resilient fixes.
• Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and state education privacy mandates.
• Ability to mentor senior engineers and influence architecture decisions through compelling technical narratives.

Location & schedule

• Fully remote across North America and LATAM with at least four hours of overlap to Eastern Time.

Compensation & benefits

• Base salary range: $195,000 - $235,000 USD with annual bonus tied to platform resilience.
